Patients in this 26-bed unit are primarily treated for cardiac disorders, pulmonary hypertension, advanced heart failure, advanced lung disease, heart and lung transplant, cardiothoracic (heart-chest) surgery, or vascular (blood vessel) surgery. Therapies provided in the ICC include vasoactive drug administration, ventilator support, thrombolytic therapy, IABP, Impella, VAD and ECLS support, dysrhythmia intervention, prostacyclin therapy, CRRT and dialysis. Monitoring includes continuous cardiac output, pulmonary artery and arterial lines, pulse oximetry, ST segment, electrocardiograms and capnography. Clinical research is supported by data collection at the bedside by both unit nurses and the investigators.
